Maha Kumbh stampede: There will be a judicial inquiry into the accident, a three-member committee will investigate and submit a report, and compensation of Rs 25 lakh will be given

The Chief Minister ordered a judicial inquiry into the accident and constituted a three-member judicial inquiry commission. The chairman of this commission will be former judge Harsh Kumar, while former DG VK Gupta and retired IAS DK Singh have been included in the commission. This commission will submit its report within a time frame. The police will also investigate the matter and the causes of the accident will be investigated in depth. Not only this, the Chief Secretary and DGP will also go to Prayagraj on Thursday and review the incident.

 

Compensation of 25 lakhs each to the families of the deceased

The Chief Minister expressed deep concern over the incident and said, "The administration had held several rounds of review meetings, yet how did this accident happen? There will be a thorough investigation." The government has also announced a compensation of ₹ 25 lakhs each to the families of the deceased. Apart from this, the Chief Secretary and DGP have been instructed to visit the spot and investigate on Thursday. They will take stock of the situation and submit the report.

 

Due to the incident despite all the arrangements, Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh and DGP Prashant Kumar have been directed to go to Prayagraj on Thursday. Both officers will review the reasons for the incident and submit their report to the CM. Regarding the incident, the CM said that it was sad and heartbreaking. We have full condolences to all those families. We have been in constant touch with the Mela Authority, Administration, Police, NDRF, and SDRF since night. Still, whatever other arrangements could be made, all of them were deployed there.

 

Update on the accident in the Mahakumbh Mela area

 

▪️Late Wednesday evening, Mela Adhikari Vijay Kiran Anand and DIG Vaibhav Krishna gave detailed information about the accident that took place at Sangam Nose on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya.

 

▪️He said that before Brahma Muhurta, between 1 am and 2 pm, there was a huge crowd pressure on the Akhara Marg in the Mela area. Due to the pressure of the crowd, the barricades on the other side broke and people crossed the barricades and came to the other side and started crushing the devotees waiting to take bath at Brahma Muhurta.

 

▪️The government immediately carried out relief and rescue operations removed the crowd and took about 90 injured to the hospital by ambulance, but unfortunately 30 devotees died of this. 25 of these have been identified and the rest are yet to be identified.

 

▪️Some of the dead are from outside states, including 4 from Karnataka, one from Assam, and one from Gujarat. Some of the injured have been taken away by family members and 36 injured are being treated at the local medical college. Helpline number 1920 has been issued by the fair administration for the convenience of the devotees. The situation is normal at this time.

 

▪️On January 29, the government had given strict instructions that there would be no VIP protocol. Today, the Mela administration did not entertain VIP protocols. No VIP protocol will be applicable on any of the main bathing festivals.

 

There was no VIP movement on January 29: DIG.

 

DIG Vaibhav Krishna said that at the time of the stampede, the crowd climbed over the people who were lying down at the Sangam. Today, on January 29, there were strict instructions from the government that there would be no VIP movement.

 

DIG made this appeal to the media

 

DiG Vaibhav Krishna, who was sharing information related to the stampede, did not answer the questions of the media and said that we have to take the people to their homes, with folded hands we request you to cooperate with us.

 

The Mela administration issued a helpline number for the convenience of the devotees.

 

For the convenience of the devotees, a helpline number 1920 has been issued by the Mela administration, through which if any person is missing, then information can be sought about him. Administrative officials said that the situation is normal at this time.

 

The Chief Minister talked to all the revered Mahamandaleshwars, saints, and Akharas and requested that the Amrit Snan be done a little late. All the saints agreed to this and today the Amrit Snan was done a little late. Which has been completed safely.

DIG Mahakumbh Vaibhav Krishna said that out of the 30 dead devotees, 25 have been identified and the rest have not been identified yet. These include 4 people from Karnataka, 1 from Assam, and 1 from Gujarat. Currently, keeping in mind the convenience of the devotees, 36 people are being treated. Regarding the accident, the officials said that there was no VIP protocol there. Helpline number 1920 has been issued for information about the injured.

Congress MLA from Belgaum North Asif Sait has also confirmed receiving information about the tragic incident. He also said that four people from Belgaum city have lost their lives in the accident that took place in the Mahakumbh. He told reporters that we have received information that four people from Belgaum city have died in the stampede. We are with their families. Along with this, Asif Sait also appealed to the state government to provide financial compensation to the families of the deceased. The MLA has also informed that Belgaum Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan has instructed the Special Deputy Commissioner to go to Prayagraj and make arrangements to bring back the bodies.
