CPI(M) leader Vrinda Karat was also stopped by police on Tuesday from visiting Sandeshkhali in West Bengal's restive North 24 Parganas district. He told reporters in Dhamakhali that the atmosphere of peace was disturbed when women were called to local TMC offices and harassed, now this is a fight for justice.
The governor appealed to political parties and people to unite
West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose has asked all political parties and people to unite regarding the Sandeshkhali violence. He has appealed to organize a peace march in Sandeshkhali of North-24 to show solidarity with the victimized women.
In a message issued from the Raj Bhavan on Monday, the Governor said, "I appeal to the law-abiding citizens, leaders, and all political parties to unite in the peace march at Sandeshkhali. They should visit the places in the violence-hit area where Distrust and anarchy are being seen. Meet the suffering women there and tell them that the entire country is with them." He said that he is aware of the steps being taken by the state government to deal with the law and order situation in Sandeshkhali.
