Air pollution levels in the national capital, Delhi, continue to remain alarming. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Air Quality Index (AQI) in many areas of the city has exceeded 300, which is classified as "very poor." To address this dire situation, the administration has deployed truck-mounted water sprinklers around the duty station as a pollution mitigation measure.

Lodhi Road in Delhi recorded an AQI of 312, and Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 371, indicating severe pollution. Niwali Saif, a Delhi resident, said that pollution is increasing here. Eye irritation and breathing difficulties are occurring. The government must do something about it.

Delhi's air quality has been poor since Sunday.

Delhi's air quality has worsened since Sunday due to slowing wind speeds and falling temperatures, making breathing difficult for people. As a result, pollution is gradually approaching the "severe" category. With the onset of winter in Delhi, the shadow of air pollution has deepened again. In such a situation, the air quality was once again recorded in the poor category on Sunday. The morning began with haze and light fog, causing breathing difficulties. A light smog blanketed the sky throughout the day, reducing visibility in the morning.

During this period, the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 366, an increase of 63 points compared to Saturday. Furthermore, Gurugram's air quality was the most polluted in the NCR after Delhi, with an AQI of 357, which falls into the very poor category. Ghaziabad recorded an AQI of 351, Noida 348, and Greater Noida 340. Faridabad's air quality remained the cleanest, with an AQI of 215, which falls into the poor category.

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) predicts that the air quality will remain in the very poor category until Wednesday. This will cause problems for respiratory patients and may also cause eye irritation. According to the CPCB, winds blew from the northwest at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour on Sunday. The estimated maximum mixing depth was 2050 meters. The ventilation index was also 16,000 meters per second. Meanwhile, at 3 p.m., PM10 concentrations were recorded at 329.7 micrograms per cubic meter and PM2.5 at 198 micrograms per cubic meter.

Severe Air Quality at Several Monitoring Stations

According to the CPCB, air quality was recorded in the severe category at several monitoring stations in the capital, while the AQI was very poor in some areas. The AQI was recorded above 350 in 14 areas, including 418 in Wazirpur, 402 in Vivek Vihar, 401 in RK Puram, 396 in Rohini, 395 in Ashok Vihar, 391 in Anand Vihar, 363 in Alipur, and 392 in Dwarka Sector 8. The AQI in many areas of Delhi has remained in the 'poor' and 'very poor' categories since Diwali, while Graded Response Action Plan-2 (GRAP-2) restrictions are still in place.
