SC On IIT Student: The Supreme Court on Monday helped a poor student while giving an extraordinary order in the interest of justice. According to the merit list of JEE, the student could not get admission despite getting a seat in IIT Bombay. Prince, a Scheduled Caste student, could not deposit the admission fee on time. Today the court ordered that he should get a seat in IIT Bombay within 48 hours. The court also made it clear that no other student's name should be removed from the list to admit Prince.
No admission in IIT Bombay due to fees
Talented student Prince Singh Jaiveer had scored good marks in the entrance examination of IIT. According to the merit list, he had to get a seat in IIT Bombay. But it took time to arrange the admission fees. On the last occasion, he tried to pay with a relative's credit card, but the payment failed due to a technical problem. In this way, he could not get admission to IIT.
Supreme Court ordered admission
A bench of Supreme Court Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice AS Bopanna had sought a response from the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JOSAA) in this matter. On Monday, the lawyer appearing in the court on behalf of JOSAA told that now there is no seat available in any IIT including IIT Bombay. Therefore the Prince cannot be given entry. The judge got very angry about this. "It cannot be accepted that a poor gifted student should be barred from studying like this," he said.
Criticizing the response of JOSAA, Justice DY Chandrachud said, "It is a bureaucratic type of answer. You should adopt a human attitude. Do you know after 10 years from today this student should play any big responsibility for the country or become a leader?" We feel that the people in your responsible position do not know the social reality. They do not realize that this is a Dalit student coming from a poor family. How difficult must it have been for him to reach here?"
The court cautioned the counsel for JOSAA and said, "If we order admission in the exercise of the special power given to the Supreme Court under Article 142, then you will have to obey it. But we want that it should not be done. You Take the right step for this student yourself." After this, the judges adjourned the hearing for some time. At 2 pm, JOSAA's lawyer once again informed the court that there is no seat available with them. After this, the court, using its powers, asked Prince to be admitted to IIT Bombay within 48 hours. The judges also got it written in the order that no other student's name should be removed from the list to give admission to this student.
