Snowfall begins in higher reaches of Himachal: 2 inches of fresh snow in Losar, 3 inches in Rohtang; Yellow alert in 5 districts

Snowfall has started in the higher altitude areas of Himachal. Losar in Lahaul Spiti district has received 2 inches of fresh snow, Rohtang Tunnel, Kunjumpas, and Baralacha have received 3 inches of fresh snow till 9 am. Light snowfall is occurring in higher altitude areas of Lahaul Spiti, Kinnaur, Kullu, and Chamba's Pangi, Bharmour. The weather has changed in Shimla as well. The sky has been overcast since morning.

 

After the Western Disturbance becomes active, the weather will remain bad for the next 5 days. Director of Meteorological Center Shimla, Surendra Pal said that a red alert for heavy snowfall has been issued in some high altitude areas of Kinnaur, Lahaul Spiti, and Kullu districts, while in higher reaches of Shimla, Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, and Sirmaur districts. There may also be snowfall for the next 3 days.

 

Heavy snowfall alerts in these areas

The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy snowfall on January 12 and 13 in Teesa and Bhatiyat of Chamba. Heavy snowfall may occur in higher reaches of Kangra the day after tomorrow, Kinnaur tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, Kullu tomorrow day and night, higher reaches of Mandi the day after tomorrow, Shimla tonight and tomorrow and the day after tomorrow in Sirmaur district.

 

Tourists and tourism businessmen are bound

The forecast of the Meteorological Department has kept tourism businessmen and tourists hopeful of snowfall, as this time there was no snowfall in other parts of the state except Chamba, Lahaul-Spiti, and higher areas of Kinnaur. Due to this, tourism tourists and tourism businessmen are disappointed.

 

Advisory for tourists and local people

During the Yellow Alert of snowfall, tourists and local people have been advised to take precautions. During this, it has been asked not to do tracking, especially in high-altitude areas.

 

Dry spell is expected to break

After the forecast from the Meteorological Department, the residents of the state are hopeful of getting relief from the dry spell, because there has been no rain-snowfall in the state since October 10-11, 2022. Especially in December, there was not even a drop of rain in all other districts except the Lahaul-Spiti district. Farmers-horticulturists, tourism businessmen, and residents of the state are worried due to this. The first week of January has also been dry.
