The wife of social activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk, arrested in the Union Territory of Ladakh violence case, has approached the Supreme Court.

Gitanjali Angmo, Sonam Wangchuk's wife, has challenged her husband's arrest. She filed a writ petition in the court on Thursday under Article 32 of the Constitution.

Earlier, on September 26, Sonam Wangchuk was detained under the National Security Act in the wake of protests demanding statehood in Ladakh.

Wife's Demand for Sonam's Release

It is noteworthy that Geetanjali Angmo has sought her husband's release through a habeas corpus petition. Sonam Wangchuk is currently lodged in Jodhpur jail in Rajasthan. The grounds raised in this petition are not yet known.

It is believed that this case may be heard immediately when the Supreme Court reopens on October 6 after the Dussehra holidays. Wangchuk is an innovator and Ramon Magsaysay Award winner and has been a prominent voice on environmental and social issues in Ladakh. (With inputs from news agency PTI)
