Tabla player Zakir Hussain dies at the age of 73, family confirms; he was undergoing treatment in America.

Tabla player Zakir Hussain died in a hospital in San Francisco, his family has confirmed the news. 73-year-old Zakir Hussain (Zakir Hussain Death) was suffering from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis disease. For the last few weeks, he was admitted to the ICU of a hospital in the American city of San Francisco. It was here that he breathed his last and said goodbye to the world.

 

Hussain is considered the greatest tabla player of his generation, he is survived by his wife, Antonia Minnecola, and his daughters, Anisa Qureshi and Isabella Qureshi. He was born on 9 March 1951, he is the son of famous tabla player Ustad Allah Rakha.

 

First concert at the age of 11

 

He started his career at the age of 11. In his career, he collaborated with almost all the eminent artists of India including Ravi Shankar, Ali Akbar Khan, and Shivkumar Sharma. His excellent work with Western musicians such as Yo-Yo Ma, Charles Lloyd, Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer, Mickey Hart, and George Harrison brought Indian classical music to international audiences, cementing his status as a global cultural ambassador.

 

He performed his first concert in the US at the age of just 11. After this, he launched his first album 'Living in the Material World' in the year 1973.

 

Zakir Hussain was awarded many honors including Padma Shri.

 

Hussain has received four Grammy Awards in his career, including three at the 66th Grammy Awards earlier this year. One of India's most famous classical musicians, the percussionist received the Padma Shri in 1988, the Padma Bhushan in 2002, and the Padma Vibhushan in 2023.

After his demise, now his fans have expressed grief on social media. Grammy-winning musician Ricky Kej remembered Hussain for his humility, and simple nature. One of the greatest musicians and personalities India has ever produced. He was a treasure trove of skill and knowledge, said musician Ricky Kej.
