While the issue of seeking an interim stay on the Waqf Amendment Act 2025 is pending in the Supreme Court, the government has taken steps forward under this law. The Central Government launched the central portal Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development for the registration of Waqf properties under the Waqf Amendment Act.

It is being called the Umeed Portal in short. After launching the portal on Friday, Union Minister for Minority Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju said that the Umeed Portal will add a new chapter in the history of Waqf property management and operation in India.

Waqf data will be uploaded to the portal.

He said that this will not only bring transparency but will also help common Muslims, especially women and children. This portal will serve as a centralized digital platform for real-time uploading, verification and monitoring of Waqf properties.

Data has to be uploaded within six months.

According to the Waqf Act, all the information on Waqf properties will have to be uploaded within six months of the launch of this portal. After this, the competent officer of the district or Waqf Board will verify the information. And then a 17-digit unique ID will be issued. After all the information related to the Waqf property is uploaded on the portal, if anyone has any objection about the property, then that objection can be registered.

Complete information on Waqf will be available in one click.

In case of objection or any dispute on the Waqf property, there will be a three-tier system for appeal. After the launch of the Umeed portal, now any information about the Waqf property can be known at one click. However, the Muslim Personal Law Board has opposed the launch of the portal while the matter is pending in the court. It is known that the Supreme Court has reserved the decision after hearing the demand for an interim stay on the Waqf Amendment Act 2025.
