Former US National Security Advisor (NSA) Jake Sullivan has made a sensational allegation against President Donald Trump. Sullivan says that Trump put at stake decades-old relations with a big democracy like India for his family's business interests with Pakistan.
In an interview with a YouTube channel, Sullivan questioned Trump's foreign policy. He said that this move is a "big strategic loss" for America, especially when strong relations with India are important in dealing with threats like China.
Sullivan said that America worked for decades with the support of both parties to strengthen relations with India. India is the world's largest democracy. America can have a strong ally there in the field of technology, talent, and economy. But Trump ignored these relations for the business benefits of his family.
Trump's business alliance with Pakistan
Sullivan said that the Trump family's business deals with Pakistan are the main reason for this change. In April 2024, World Liberty Financial (WLF), a cryptocurrency platform backed by Trump, signed several agreements with the Pakistan Crypto Council (PCC). These agreements were aimed at promoting investment and innovation in the crypto industry.
Trump and his allies hold a 60% stake in WLF. The US delegation for this deal also included Zachary Witkoff, son of Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff.
In June, the Pakistan Army claimed that its Field Marshal Asim Munir and Trump met at the White House. During this, trade, economic development, and cryptocurrency were discussed. According to the Pakistan Army, Trump has expressed his desire for a "long-term strategic partnership" and trade relations based on "mutual interests".
Trump's stance against India
In July, Trump announced a major trade deal with Pakistan and threatened to impose a 25% tariff on Indian goods.
He said that the US would help develop Pakistan's alleged huge oil reserves. Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social, "We have made a deal with Pakistan, under which we will work together to develop their oil reserves."
Sullivan warned that Trump's move is not only harming relations with India, but is also sending a message to other countries of the world, such as Germany, Japan, or Canada, that America cannot be trusted. Due to this, other countries will feel hesitant in relations with America.
Questions on America's credibility
Sullivan said that America's word is its strength. Friendly countries should trust America, but Trump's move has not only weakened relations with India, but also America's credibility all over the world.
He stressed that strong relations with India are in America's interest, and Trump's move can cause harm in the long run.
