Indian fast bowler Harshit Rana has undergone knee surgery, crushing his dream of playing in the T20 World Cup. Harshit was injured during a warm-up match a day before defending champions Team India's first match. After sustaining the knee injury, Rana was ruled out of the team a day before India's opening match against the USA in Mumbai. The young fast bowler has now shared an update on his fitness.

Harshit Rana's surgery was successful

Rana posted a picture of himself on Instagram, lying in a hospital bed and giving a thumbs-up. He captioned the post saying that the surgery went well and now the focus is on recovery and getting back to doing what he loves.

Rana sustained the knee injury during a warm-up match against South Africa at the DY Patil Stadium last week. He bowled only one over, conceding 16 runs, before limping off the field. The knee injury forced him out of the T20 World Cup 2026 squad. Tests revealed that he had suffered a lateral meniscus injury. The medical team advised him to undergo surgery immediately, which he subsequently did.

Following Harshit's injury, India called up senior fast bowler Mohammed Siraj at the last minute. Siraj was preparing to travel to Germany after not being selected for the T20 World Cup squad.

Siraj performed brilliantly in the opening match against the USA, taking 3 wickets and playing a crucial role in Team India's victory. India scored 161 runs in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, the USA team could only manage 132 runs, and India won the match by 29 runs, starting their campaign with a victory.
