BJP has scored a hat-trick with a huge majority in the Haryana assembly elections. In Haryana, BJP is winning a total of 49 assembly seats in the trends till 4:30 pm on Tuesday. BJP's 'Jat versus non-Jat' formula was a hit in gathering its supporters.
In this assembly election, the BJP has managed to save 27 existing seats and has also won 22 new seats. Out of these, nine new seats have been won from the stronghold of Jats. With this, the BJP is the first party in the 57-year history of Haryana, which is going to form the government for the third consecutive time. Let us tell you the five factors of this record victory of BJP in Haryana...
1. 'Unique' bet was successful
BJP had sensed the resentment of the people towards Manohar Lal Khattar, who comes from Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and belongs to the Punjabi community. Khattar was the CM of Haryana for 9.5 years.
BJP replaced Khattar with Nayab Singh Saini as CM in March 2024, just six months before the assembly elections. This proved to be a successful move by the BJP to attract about 44 percent of the OBC population of Haryana.
The BJP conducted an internal survey, which revealed that there is an anti-incumbency wave against Khattar due to the farmers' movement and the protest against women wrestlers. This is the reason why Khattar was absent from the election campaign. Not only this, Khattar's face was not seen in most of the posters in the state during the election campaign. Prime Minister Modi held four rallies in Haryana. Khattar was present in only one of them.
2. BJP's Jat versus non-Jat formula was a hit
There are more than 36 communities in Haryana. Among these, the largest population is of Jats. BJP started doing non-Jat politics here. BJP, which is known as the party of upper castes, was confident of Brahmin, Bania, Punjabi, and Rajput votes.
BJP tried to turn the backward and Dalit vote bank in its favour. This formula was successful in 2024 after 2014 and 2019. The result of this is - the total population of Scheduled Castes (SC) in Haryana is about 20 percent. A total of 17 seats are reserved for the SC community.
In the last assembly elections, BJP won 4 out of 17 seats. Whereas this time BJP is winning 7 out of the seats reserved for SC.
3. BJP changed 25 tickets, 16 of these candidates won
BJP changed faces on 25 seats before the Haryana Assembly elections. According to the trends till 4.30 pm, 16 of these candidates have won or are leading. BJP had contested all 90 seats.
Out of these, the party is winning 49 seats i.e. 56 percent. BJP had given a chance to new people on 25 seats, out of them 16 candidates are winning or leading i.e. 67 percent. The BJP's formula of changing the candidate worked.
4. BJP benefited from the breakdown of JJP's support base
In the 2019 assembly elections in Haryana, JJP won 1 seat. Out of these seats, five were from Bagar, four from Bangar, and one from GT Road belt. At the same time, JJP was wiped out in this election. BJP and Congress got the lead on 10 seats of JJP.
BJP captured four seats, including 2-2 seats from Bangar and Bagar belt. At the same time, the Congress party got six seats in its share. These seats include three from Bagar belt, two from Bangar belt, and one from the GT Road belt.
Let us tell you that in the 2019 assembly elections, BJP and JJP formed the government in alliance. JJP supremo Dushyant Chautala became the Deputy CM. In March 2024, the BJP broke the alliance with JJP and decided to contest alone. BJP got the benefit of running a coalition government with JJP from 2019-2024 in this election.
5. BJP's 150 rallies against Congress' 70 rallies
BJP held more than 150 rallies in the Haryana assembly elections. Four rallies were held by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and 10 by Home Minister Amit Shah. Modi covered 20 seats with his four rallies, out of which BJP is winning 10.
More than half a dozen meetings were held by UP CM Yogi Adityanath. Apart from this, more than 40 Union Ministers and MPs sought votes for BJP candidates.
Congress held only 70 meetings in Haryana, of which four rallies and two road shows were held by opposition leader Rahul Gandhi. While Priyanka Gandhi held two meetings and one road show with Rahul.
Apart from this, Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge held two rallies. Many former Chief Ministers and MPs including Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu sought votes for the Congress. If it is said that in this election, BJP's 150 rallies outweighed Congress' 70 meetings, then it would not be wrong.
