बुधवार को, ट्रम्प ने भारत को प्रतिशोध की धमकी दी थी और कहा था कि यदि भारत संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका के लिए मलेरिया रोधी दवा हाइड्रोक्सीक्लोरोक्वीन जारी नहीं करता है, तो हमें प्रतिशोध का सामना करना पड़ेगा।
इसके तुरंत बाद, भारत ने कहा कि सरकार उन सभी देशों को आवश्यक दवा की आपूर्ति करेगी जो घातक कोरोनावायरस से प्रभावित हैं। हालाँकि, भारत ने यह भी स्पष्ट किया कि अन्य सभी ज़िम्मेदार राष्ट्रों की तरह सरकार को भी यह सुनिश्चित करना था कि उसके पास घरेलू उपभोग के लिए पर्याप्त स्टॉक हो, जिसके कारण निर्यात पर अस्थायी प्रतिबंध लगा।
