The Supreme Court will hear on Monday several PILs seeking intervention in the matter of adulteration of ghee used in making Tirupati temple laddus with animal fat. According to the cause list published on the website of the apex court, a bench of Justices BR Gavai and KV Vishwanathan will hear the matter on September 30.
Demand for CBI inquiry raised
The petition filed by advocate Satyam Singh has sought a judicial inquiry by forming a committee headed by a former Supreme Court judge or ordering a CBI inquiry into the criminal conspiracy and mismanagement of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Trust, which runs the temple.
What has the petitioner said?
The petition states that the investigation has revealed facts that animal fat, fish oil, and other non-vegetarian items were used in the laddu prasadam at Tirumala.
This act is not only a gross violation of Hindu religious customs, but it has also deeply hurt the sentiments of countless devotees. The petition states that adulteration of prasad with animal fat at Tirumala Tirupati Balaji temple is a serious violation of Article 25 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to freedom of religion. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has already formed an SIT to investigate the matter.

On the other hand, former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy again questioned the claims of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in which he had said that adulterated ghee was used to make Tirupati laddu when YSRCP was in power. On Sunday, the YSRCP chief said that the statements of the TTD executive officer appointed by Chandrababu Naidu's government itself refute the CM's claims.
Jagan Mohan asked the Chief Minister in a post on Instagram, "What does this mean? Is this evidence not enough? Satyameva Jayate.''
