Congress and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leaders have strongly criticized the controversial remarks of CPI (M) Politburo member A Vijayraghavan about the victory of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra from Wayanad seat.

Congress leaders accused the senior CPI (M) leader of making comments to please the Sangh Parivar, while its ally IUML alleged that he was trying to incite majority communalism in the society.

Rahul won with the support of communal forces: CPI (M)

During a CPI (M) event in Wayanad on Saturday, Vijayraghavan claimed that Rahul Gandhi won this seat twice with the support of communal forces and extremist elements were present in Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's election rallies.

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal strongly criticized Vijayraghavan and accused him of using communal language. He said that even the Sangh Parivar may hesitate to use such language against Rahul Gandhi. He also questioned whether the CPI(M) also had the same opinion.

IUML leader PK Kunhalikutty said that claiming that Rahul and Priyanka's victory was due to minority communalism is an attempt to incite majority communalism. The BJP adopts a similar strategy across the country. The CPI(M) is now using the same in Kerala.

BJP candidate challenges Priyanka's victory

In the recent by-election held on the Wayanad seat, BJP candidate Navya Haridas has filed a petition in the Kerala High Court challenging the election of Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Haridas has claimed in her petition filed on Friday that Priyanka gave wrong information about her and her family's assets in the nomination form. The BJP leader said that this is against the model code of conduct and is tantamount to corrupt conduct. In the by-election, Navya Haridas was defeated by Congress candidate Priyanka Gandhi Vadra by a margin of more than five lakh votes.
