Kolkata, March 15 (IANS) Two people were nabbed here Saturday for carrying large amount of cash without the required documents, said an Election Commission official.
One of the two carrying Rs 11.14 lakh in person was arrested from the Burrabazar area under Posta police station. The other person was found to be carrying Rs 8.91 lakh in cash in an area under the Jorasanko police station.
"None of them could provide any legal documents on why they were carrying the cash. As this constitutes a violation of the Model Code of Conduct, they have been arrested," the official said.
Meanwhile, the polling time in the first phase of the election for Darjeeling, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar Lok Sabha seats have been extended by an hour enable more voters to cast their franchise.
Polling in these constituencies will start at 7 a.m. instead and continue upto 6 p.m. Earlier, it was supposed to end at 5 p.m.
