Since the 2003 World Cup, Team India has played seven matches against New Zealand in ICC tournaments. The Kiwi team won five of these matches. Whereas, India has won only one match. The group stage match in the 2019 ODI World Cup was canceled due to rain. This is the same New Zealand that defeated India in the 2019 World Cup semi-finals and broke its dream of becoming champion. 15 matches in ICC tournament between India and New Zealand

The teams of India and New Zealand have come face to face 15 times including the finals of ICC tournaments i.e. ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup, Champions Trophy, and World Test Championship. Out of these, India has won only four matches, while New Zealand has won 10. One match has been canceled due to rain.

 

Team India had defeated New Zealand twice in the 1987 World Cup. After this, they were defeated by seven wickets in the 2003 World Cup. After this, Team India failed to win over New Zealand in any ICC tournament for 20 years. In the league match of this World Cup, India won by four wickets and ended the two-decade-long streak of defeat.

 

Both teams have clashed 10 times in the ODI World Cup

Both the teams came face to face for the first time in an ICC tournament in the 1975 World Cup. Then New Zealand defeated India by four wickets. Both teams have clashed 10 times so far in the ODI World Cup. Out of this, the Kiwi team won five matches, while India could win only four matches. One match had no result.

 

After the 2003 World Cup, India and New Zealand have clashed thrice in this tournament. Both teams won one match each and one had no result. Last time both the teams came face to face in the league match of this World Cup and India won by four wickets.

 

Faced each other once in the Champions Trophy and twice in the T20 World Cup.

Both the teams have also come face to face in the final of the 2000 Champions Trophy (ODI format). Then the Kiwi team defeated India by four wickets. Both teams have clashed twice in the T20 World Cup. New Zealand defeated India by 10 runs in the group stage of the 2007 T20 World Cup. At the same time, in the Super-10 of the 2016 T20 World Cup, New Zealand defeated India by 47 runs. This is the same match when Team India was all out for 79 runs while chasing the target of 127 runs.

 

India-New Zealand teams faced each other in the WTC final in 2021

India and New Zealand also came face to face in the final of the World Test Championship which started in 2019. In the final played in 2021, New Zealand performed brilliantly and defeated India by eight wickets. This was also New Zealand's second ICC trophy. Before this, he had also won the Champions Trophy in 2000.

 

In the final of the World Test Championship, India scored 217 runs in the first innings, in reply, New Zealand scored 249 runs in the first innings. India's second innings was reduced to 170 runs. New Zealand had achieved the target by losing two wickets.

 

Overall record of both teams

Talking about the overall record of both teams, a total of 117 ODIs have been played between India and New Zealand. Out of these, India has won 59 matches and New Zealand has won 50 matches. One match was tied and seven matches remained inconclusive. India has an excellent record against New Zealand in ODIs at home.

 

39 ODIs have been played between the two on Indian soil. Out of these, the Indian team has won 30 matches and New Zealand has won eight matches. One match remained inconclusive. Both the teams have come face to face thrice in the ODI World Cup on Indian soil. Two matches were played in the 1987 World Cup. India had won both these matches. After this, India also won the current World Cup. Both the teams have come face to face four times in ICC tournaments in India. All three ODI World Cup matches of 1987 and 2023 were won by India and the 2016 T20 World Cup was won by New Zealand.
