New Delhi, Jan 15 (IANS) Two people were critically injured when they tried to commit suicide at two Delhi Metro stations Thursday, police said.
The first incident was reported around 12.30 p.m. from west Delhi's Jahangirpuri station from where 23-year-old Mohammed Ashif jumped on to the road from the elevated train track.
Ashif, a resident of west Delhi's Narela, received head and leg injuries and was admitted to the Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital.
"The reason behind his extreme step is yet to be ascertained as no suicide note was recovered from his possession," a police official said.
In the second incident, an unidentified man in his early 40s jumped on to the rail track at north Delhi's Shastri Nagar station around 3 p.m.
The man received severe head and hand injuries when he was hit by a train plying between Dilshad Garden and Rithala, a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) official said.
The driver hit the emergency brake but it was too late and the train hit the man.
Police said the man was taken to the Hindu Rao Hospital where his condition is said to be critical.
"We are yet to identify him and ascertain the reason behind his extreme step," a police official said.
A Delhi Metro official said train services were not affected due to the suicide attempt as it was not a peak hour.
