Following their meeting on the sidelines of the SCO summit in Samarkand, the two leaders reviewed several aspects of bilateral ties, including energy cooperation, trade and investment, defense and security cooperation, and other key areas.

The PMO said that PM Modi briefed President Putin about India's current chairmanship of the G-20 and highlighted its key priorities. He also hoped that the two countries would work together during India's chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. They agreed to be in regular contact with each other. War continues in Russia-Ukraine

During the ongoing war with Ukraine, Russia has threatened nuclear attack several times. Recently, Vladimir Putin once again threatened a nuclear attack. Meanwhile, some reports said that the decision to cancel the Modi-Putin summit was taken after Putin's indirect threat of using nuclear weapons in the Ukraine war. However, Russia denied these reports. The Russian Foreign Ministry said reports about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's refusal to hold a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin is a "misunderstanding".
