Srinagar, Jan 18 (IANS) Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were killed Sunday in a gunfight between them and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Sopore town, police said.
"Following an information about presence of militants, security forces, including the state police, Rashtriya Rifles and (Central Reserve Police Force) CRPF Sunday cordoned off Saida Pora locality in Sopore," a senior police officer told IANS here.
"Militants started indiscriminate firing when the security forces came near their hideout, triggering an encounter. Two militants, Mohammad Ramzan and Assadullah, were killed in the encounter," he said.
"The two slain militants were from the LeT outfit," the police officer added.
He said, "Asadullah infiltrated last year and was an LeT group commander. He was instrumental in roping cadres into his group. He was active in Kupwara district and moved to Sopore last month. He was planning to activate LeT base in Sopore."
"Ramzan was part of the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) group in Kashmir. He has infiltrated in 2013. A large part of the group migrated to south Kashmir and many were killed. He was one of the two JeM militants in north Kashmir who got inducted into LeT," the officer said.
"Two rifles, two magazines and other subversive materials were recovered from the killed militants," the police officer added.
