The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved 8 kg migrant laborers to be given 5 kg of grain free of cost every month for 2 months from the central grain reserves. The government announced this last week as part of the Rs 20 lakh crore 'self-reliant India' package in view of the economic crisis arising out of Corona. Under this, migrant workers will be given 5 kg of food grains per person per month free for May and June.
A government release said that this allocation will help reduce the difficulties of migrants and stranded migrants affected by the economic turmoil caused by Corona. The government will bear a food subsidy of Rs 2,982.27 crore from this scheme. Apart from this, the Central Government will bear the expenditure of about 127.25 crores for inter-state transport, maintenance of food grains, dealer margin / additional dealer margin.
Scheme approved for micro food processing units
The cabinet has approved a new scheme of Rs.10 thousand crore to provide loan subsidy to 2 lakh micro food processing units across the country. A plan was announced to help micro food processing enterprises to work together as part of the 20 lakh crore 'self-reliant' package to revive the economy. An official statement said that the central and state governments would bear the expenses in the ratio of 60:40 under the scheme for the unorganized sector. The scheme will be implemented over a period of 5 years i.e. 2021-25. About 20 thousand units will get subsidy related to the loan.
MSME: Loan at 9.25%
The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a plan to provide additional loan of Rs 3 lakh crore for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) at a concessional rate of 9.25 per cent. This emergency loan facility will be made available under the Guarantee Scheme. It was announced last week by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. A statement said that up to Rs 3 lakh loan will be given under the scheme, on which the National Credit Guarantee Trustee Company will provide 100 percent guarantee cover.
