UGC Admission Warning: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a warning to the students regarding admission to Periyar University in Tamil Nadu. The UGC, in a warning advisory, said that the commission does not recognize distance learning (ODL) courses to be conducted by Periyar University. Therefore, students should be careful about admission to the Distance Learning (ODL) courses of this university.

Commission Secretary Rajneesh Jain said that it has come to the notice of the Commission through various information received that Periyar University, Tamil Nadu, is functioning without a whole-time Director. There is also not enough full-time faculty, and not enough non-academic staff. This University runs Center and ODL programs without prior approval of the UGC in gross contravention of the conditions laid down under the UGC Act and its amendments from time to time.

UGC Secretary Rajnish Jain said that as per the recommendations of the Grievance Redressal Committee (CRC), the commission has decided that no application from the higher education institution will be entertained for the years 2022-23 and 2023-24. The complaints and notices of violations received will be sent to the Governor and the Secretary to the State Government for fact-finding and necessary action in the matter.

Warning the students against the ODL programs offered by the university, Jain said that taking admission in such programs could endanger the career of the students in the absence of recognition of the programs by the UGC.
