Proposal to make parental consent mandatory
Last month, the Government of India released the draft of Digital Personal Data Protection Rules. It proposes to make parental consent mandatory for minor users to create accounts online or on internet media platforms.
Meta said in a statement, "We are expanding Instagram Teen accounts in India to ensure safety for teenagers and address their parents' concerns about harmful content. That is, no one will be able to follow and view content without permission.
