
Two Muslim students from Malappuram, Kerala have surprised the people of the country by winning the Ramayana Quiz. The victory of both remains a topic of discussion in the media. Both have won the statewide online Ramayana quiz competition organized by Kerala publisher DC Books. More than 1000 people participated in this quiz. Both are students of the Wafi Course (Islamic Studies) at KKHM Islamic and Arts College in Valencherry. The Wafi is an 8-year program in Islamic Studies leading up to the post-graduation level. According to a report in the Times of India, the program also includes a three-year university degree course. Winner Mohammad Jabir said that he came to know about the quiz contest through DC Books' Telegram group and registered himself for it. He also said that there was no elaborate preparation for the quiz.
Ramayana-Mahabharata should be read by all the people of the country: Winner student
The winning students said that all citizens of the country should read and learn the epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata as they are part of the culture, tradition, and history of the country. I believe that it is the responsibility of all of us to learn and understand these texts. The winning students said that though they knew about the epic from childhood, they studied the Ramayana and Hinduism in depth after attending the Vafi course.
Inspiration should be taken from Ramayana: winning student
The 22-year-old student said that Ram also had to sacrifice his kingdom to fulfill the promise made to his father Dasharatha. Living in times of endless struggles for power, we must draw inspiration from characters like Rama and the message of epics like Ramayana. The winning students said that the in-depth study would help in understanding other religions and people of these communities more. He said that no religion promotes hatred but only propagates peace and harmony.
