External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday urged the international community to show "zero tolerance" to terrorism, saying the menace is the "most inescapable violation of human rights". Indirectly pointing to Pakistan, he said those who carried out this should always be held accountable.
In a video message at the high-level segment of the 52nd session of the UN Human Rights Council, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said India has been at the forefront of tackling global challenges adversely affecting human rights, especially terrorism.
He said, 'The last three years have been difficult for the world and developing countries have been affected the most. He said that the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, rising prices of fuel, fertilizers, and food grains, and increasing debt burden have adversely affected human rights globally.
Jaishankar said, "Our collective efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals have been seriously set back." Without naming any country responsible for terrorism, he said, "India believes that the world should stop terrorism." Must exhibit absolutely zero tolerance. After all, terrorism is the most inevitable violation of human rights and has no justification under any circumstances. Its culprits must always be held accountable." Explain that India has been underlining Pakistan's role in promoting cross-border terrorism in the country.
Jaishankar reiterated that India will continue to take necessary steps to ensure that the country fulfills all its human rights obligations, while also ensuring that people enjoy all their basic human rights.
He said, "Our Constitution guarantees civil and political rights as fundamental rights. It also has provisions for the progressive realization of economic, social, and cultural rights. Our independent judiciary is playing its expected role in this regard. Our Media and civil society are also discharging their responsibilities.
On the occasion of the completion of 75 years of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in the world and 30 years of the Vienna Declaration and Program of Action, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar underlined the universality of all basic human rights.
