The BRICS summit is going to start on Tuesday (22 August) in Johannesburg, South Africa. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has left for Johannesburg today to attend the 15th BRICS Summit. PM Narendra Modi is likely to have a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the conference.

, The Prime Minister will hold talks with the leaders of Brazil, China, Russia, and South Africa on the sidelines of the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg. This will be the first BRICS summit after 2019 (Corona pandemic), in which all the leaders will meet in person. ,

 

 

, Asked about the possibility of a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra on Monday said the PM's schedule is still being worked out. Kwatra said, “India has a positive intention and an open mind when it comes to BRICS expansion.

 

, If a bilateral meeting takes place between PM Modi and Xi Jinping, it would be their first since the India-China border standoff began in May 2020. The two leaders had a brief meeting in November last year at the G20 dinner hosted by Indonesian President Joko Widodo in Bali.

 

, Indian and Chinese soldiers have been in a state of confrontation for more than three years over the border in eastern Ladakh. While both countries have ensured the withdrawal of troops at many places after extensive diplomatic and military talks.

 

, Last month, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met top Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the sidelines of the BRICS countries meeting in Johannesburg. Doval stressed the importance of sustained efforts to completely resolve the situation and restore peace in the border areas.
