The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) issued an alert regarding malnourished children in a report on Tuesday. According to UNICEF – due to the Russia-Ukraine war, coronavirus, and climate change, the number of malnourished children is increasing rapidly. Along with this, the prices of food items and raw materials have also increased significantly due to the global food crisis. Due to this millions of children can die.
Threat to the lives of 6 lakh children
According to the report - UNICEF gives one food packet to millions of malnourished children around the world. In this packet, things made of groundnut, oil, and sugar are given to give full nutrition to the children. These things go a long way in making children healthy again. Earlier the cost of a food packet was Rs 31,00. Due to the global food crisis, now this packet has become 16% more expensive. This has made it difficult to save the lives of 6 lakh severely malnourished children.
Funds needed to save children's lives
UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell said – The food packets we are talking about. They are not just food packets, but the difference between life and death for millions of children. The increased price of food grains in the food market will not affect the world as much as it will these children.
Russell further says – The number of malnourished children was already very high. This situation has become more dangerous after the Russo-Ukraine war. Funds of $ 25 million will be needed to get the malnourished children out of their current condition.
1 crore 35 lakh children malnourished, all countries should help
At present, 1 crore 35 lakh children in the world are victims of malnutrition. Of these, there are 6 lakh children whose lives are at high risk. 2 out of 3 malnourished children need food packets immediately. UNICEF has asked all countries to come forward and help to deal with this situation.
