The opposition is taking a jibe at the Congress's promise to give 40 percent tickets to women in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections and it is being said that these tickets will be given to those women whose husbands have been active in the Congress. But Congress denies it. According to Congress, this time women will be given tickets in a completely different way. In this, it will not be necessary that the family background of those women should be political from the beginning. Congress has constituted a screening committee to give tickets, in which the complete outline and plans for giving tickets to women are being prepared.
Responsibility to Mahila Congress Committee
It has not been disclosed how many seats Congress will contest in Uttar Pradesh. It will all be decided with the presence of a political alliance or not. How many seats the other party gets in that alliance, will be decided on which women will Congress give 40 percent of the remaining seats. A senior leader associated with the Congress Committee says that it usually happens that when it comes to giving tickets to women, tickets are given to women of a big political family only. In a way, this woman is a dummy candidate. The entire election is fought in the same field with the politically dominant family. But the Congress party is not going to do so at all. According to Congress sources, Priyanka Gandhi has prepared a complete process and plan to give tickets to women. This is happening for the first time that Congress will give tickets to a maximum number of women, so its screening will also be done in the same manner. Sources say that Priyanka Gandhi has also given the responsibility to some other wings, including the Mahila Congress Committee, to elect such women and bring them forward.
No female candidate will be a 'dummy', claims Priyanka
Sources say Priyanka Gandhi has clearly instructed that no woman candidate will be a dummy candidate. This means that the ticket will not be given to any woman whose husband has been working in the area and he forwards his wife or any woman of the family in the claim of the ticket. Sources associated with the Congress party say that within the next one and a half to two months, the complete list will be in front of Priyanka Gandhi. During this, the women who are ticket contenders have also been instructed to work more in the field and strengthen their profile.
promise to do a lot for women
Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee treasurer Satish Ajmani says that Congress has made all efforts to put women first in the elections. According to him, the election this time will be different than the last few elections. Priyanka Gandhi has made her presence felt in the Uttar Pradesh elections with a slogan like "I am a girl, I can fight". During this, Priyanka promised to give 40 percent tickets to women. Apart from this, focusing on women, it has also promised to provide three gas cylinders free of cost annually. Smartphones and electric scooters have been announced to the girl students. Priyanka Gandhi has made her announcements focusing more and more on women. Free bus service for women is also an important announcement. Priyanka has talked about increasing the old widow pension to ₹ 1000 per month. Along with this, an honorarium of ten thousand rupees per month has also been announced to the Anganwadi and Asha Bahus.
PL Punia, chairman of the election campaign committee in the state, says that in the last several years, no plan to advance women has been implemented in the state. They argue that the intention of the government was never to take women forward. Punia says that the schemes that Priyanka Gandhi has talked about to start women or the promises she has made, will not only be fulfilled when the government is formed but they will also be taken forward.
