Amidst the sound of the third wave of Corona, the vaccination of 12-18-year-old children in the country will start next month. The news agency Reuters has given this report quoting sources. According to this, Cadila Healthcare will launch the children's vaccine Zycov-D next month. Its emergency use was approved by the Drugs Controller General of India (DGCI) last month. According to a Reuters report, Zydus Cadila will start making 10 million doses every month from October.
The third phase trial of Covaxin was also completed
On the other hand, Bharat Biotech has also completed the third phase trial of Covaxin on children. The company has said that it will hand over the third phase data to DGCI next week. At present, the data of the third phase is being analyzed. At the same time, the Serum Institute of India is also conducting the second-third phase trial of Covax on children aged 2 to 12 years.
Children suffering from serious diseases can get the benefit first
The committee advising the government on Covid-19 vaccination last month had suggested that initially children above 12 years of age who have serious diseases should be vaccinated. The committee had said that there are 40 crore children in the country and if vaccination of all is started, then the already running 18+ vaccination will be affected. Committee chairman NK Arora had said that completely healthy children will have to wait for vaccination. According to the advice of the committee, first, those children will be vaccinated who are victims of a kidney transplant, cancer from birth, or heart-related disease.
Why is it important for children to get vaccinated?
In a densely populated country like India, it is important to vaccinate children at the earliest. To understand this better, the example of Maharashtra is in front. In comparison to the first wave of corona in Mumbai, infection among children increased in the second wave. On the other hand, microbiologist Professor Dr. Gagandeep Kang says that after getting the vaccine to the elders, only children will be those who will not be protected. Because of this, the possibility of getting infected in the third wave increases.
