India has issued a detailed advisory warning for students waiting to study medicine in China. As the process of registering new students begins, India has alerted students to post-study problems in China, including low pass percentages, the compulsion to learn Putonghua, the official language of China, and the need to practice as a doctor in India. Strict rules are involved.
Students have been sitting at home for more than two years
India has issued this advisory at a time when thousands of Indian students studying in medical colleges in China have been sitting at home for more than two years due to Beijing's Kovid visa ban. According to official estimates, more than 23 thousand Indian students are currently enrolled in various universities in China, of which a large number are medical students.
China recently issued a visa for some selected students
China recently issued visas to select students, but most of them are struggling to return as direct flights from India to China are not available. Because of the quarantine restrictions in Beijing, talks are going on between the two countries for limited flight facilities. Meanwhile, Chinese medical colleges have started registering new students from other countries including India.
The Indian Embassy in Beijing on Thursday issued a detailed advisory in this context for students who want to pursue medical studies in China. It states that the qualifications they have to acquire after completing their studies in China to practice medicine in India are strict. Between 2015-21, only 16 percent of students were able to pass the test for practice in India.
Only 6,387 candidates cleared the FMG exam
A total of 40,417 candidates appeared for the Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG) examination conducted by the Medical Council of India (MCI) during this period, out of which only 6,387 could clear it. Between 2015-21, only 16 percent of Indian students studying medicine in 45 recognized Chinese universities could pass. The advisory said that parents who wish to send their children to study in Chinese universities should take cognizance of this fact. Fees for Chinese universities vary, so one should contact the university directly before taking admission.
