Surprising everyone, wrestler Vinesh Phogat announced her retirement. She thanked everyone for their support and said that she would remain indebted to everyone. In an emotional social media post, remembering her mother, she wrote that she had lost her courage. Earlier, wrestler Vinesh had appealed to the Sports Tribunal to jointly award the Olympic silver medal. A decision is expected on her appeal today. However, even before this decision, Vinesh Phogat surprised her crores of fans by announcing her retirement.

Wrestler Vinesh Phogat, referring to her 24-year-old career on her ex handle- @Phogat_Vinesh, wrote, 'Goodbye wrestling 2001-2024.' Emotional 29-year-old wrestler Vinesh remembered her mother and apologized to her, writing, 'Maa wrestling won over me, I lost. Sorry. Your dream, my courage has been broken. I don't have more strength than this now.' Let us tell you that earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and many other personalities of the country's sports and political world had encouraged Vinesh by calling her a champion.

Earlier, according to the news that came late on Wednesday night, at around 5.51 pm local time in Paris, she appealed to the Court of Arbitration of Sports (CAS) to give her a silver medal. She made it to the finals by winning three consecutive matches on Tuesday. However, when her weight was measured on Wednesday, it turned out to be 100 grams more. After this, she was disqualified. Sports Arbitration is also called the Court of Arbitration for Sports.

Can she still get the silver medal?

Earlier on Wednesday, Vinesh appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) against her disqualification from the Olympic finals and demanded that she be given a joint silver medal. The ad hoc Department of arbitration for Sports set up here to resolve any dispute arising during the 10 days before the Olympic Games or the opening ceremony will hear their appeal in the next few hours.

Day spent in polyclinic inside the Games Village

Vinesh spent a large part of the day in the polyclinic inside the Games Village as the weight loss measure left her dehydrated. These measures included starving, abstaining from fluids, and staying up all night to sweat. Cuban wrestler Yusnelis Guzman Lopez, who lost to Vinesh in the semi-finals, replaced the Indian in the final, where she lost to Sarah Ann Hildebrandt of the US.

Vinesh is now relying on the arbitration for sports to become the joint silver medalist with Lopez. However, United World Wrestling, the international governing body of wrestling, has made it clear that there will be no change in the current rules related to weight.
