Virologist Gagandeep Kang claims about XE variant, this version does not cause serious illness, advice not to be worried

Gagandeep Kang, one of India's top virologists, said on Thursday that from what we know about the XE variant of Corona so far, it does not appear that it is a cause for concern.

Acute infection does not cause serious illness

Gagandeep Kang said that this variant spreads slightly faster, but it does not appear to cause more serious diseases. Kang said about the discovery of the XE variant in Mumbai, we are more concerned about serious diseases, and if it is not happening, then I think we should track it, but don't worry too much about it.

Insacag denies the XE variant

However, Insacag denied the detection of the XE variant, stating that the variant does not belong to the genomic picture of the XE variant. INSCAG is a platform established by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to study and monitor genome sequencing and virus variation of circulating strains of corona in India.

No need to worry about the XE variant

Kang said Insacag says that even if it's XE, we still shouldn't be worried about it. He stressed that whenever we see a new variant, the important thing is what are the implications for the country. Is this going to start a new wave, are people going to get seriously ill, etc.

Results not clear regarding sequencing

Regarding reports claiming 10 percent higher transmission efficiency in the XE variant than in Omicron, Kang said these are UK findings, as they do a lot of sequencing.
