The water level of the Yamuna river continues to recede in Wazirabad. On Wednesday, the water level of the Yamuna river in Wazirabad also decreased from Tuesday.
Due to this, the water level of Yamuna in Wazirabad has decreased by more than five and a half feet in a week. Due to this, the shortage of drinking water is increasing due to less water supply from Jal Board's Wazirabad, Chandrawal, and Okhla water treatment plants.
It is feared that if the problem is not resolved soon, then there may be a big drinking water crisis in the capital. According to the Jal Board, the water level of the Yamuna river in Wazirabad started decreasing about three weeks ago, but the problem has increased more than a week ago.
The normal water level of the Yamuna river near the Wazirabad barrage should be 674.50 feet. On May 12, the water level had dropped to 671.80 feet. Since then the water level has been continuously going down. The water level was 669 feet on May 17, which fell to 668.9 feet on Wednesday.
The situation is that in three weeks, the Jal Board has written five times to the Irrigation Department of Haryana demanding the release of 150 cusecs of extra water, but the situation has not improved yet. Due to this, water supply has also been affected in New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) areas including many areas of North, North-West, Central, and South Delhi.
According to the Jal Board, Delhi requires 1,260 MGD (Million Gallon Daily). The Jal Board normally supplies 950 MGD of water, but this time the water supply was increased through tube wells. Because of this, Jal Board was supplying about 990 MGD of water in the past.
It is said that 65 MGD of the water supply has gone down. Due to this, about 925 MGD of water is being supplied. Due to this, the gap between demand and supply of water has increased to about 335 MGD.
The government does not have a roadmap to remove the water crisis: Congress
The state Congress says that the people of Delhi are facing a water crisis during the scorching summer season, while the AAP government has no roadmap to overcome it. State Congress President Anil Chaudhary said that due to administrative inefficiencies of the Delhi government, people are facing a water crisis.
Surprisingly, the Kejriwal government, unfazed by the ever-decreasing water level of Yamuna, instead of demanding the release of water from Haryana, is issuing statements of a 70 MGD water crisis in Delhi as the water level is low.
He said that the Delhi Jal Board, steeped in corruption, is about to go bankrupt. He said that till the Jal Board is not brought out from the deficit, clean water cannot be provided 24 hours in Delhi. He said that just as the BJP has made the corporation a pauper by looting the corporation, in the same way, the AAP government has made the Jal Board bankrupt.
