Lumpy virus: Governments are not paying attention to genome sequencing, only Maharashtra sent samples after Rajasthan

Posted on 11th Oct 2022 03:31 pm by rohit kumar

After Rajasthan, now Maharashtra has also started genome sequencing regarding the lumpy virus, but the rest of the states are not paying any attention to it. Samples from every district of Rajasthan have been sent to IGIB in Delhi.

At the same time, all the samples from Maharashtra have been sent to the NIV laboratory in Pune. Along with corona and monkeypox, NIV scientists have also started genome sequencing for the lumpy virus. Scientists say that the sequence of the virus is also important because through this the changes coming in different strains of the virus can be monitored.

A senior scientist of the NIV said that recently samples from two districts of Maharashtra have reached their place for the lumpy virus. Samples have not come to them from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, or any other state. He said that the role of genome sequencing is important in any kind of virus. If we use it as surveillance, then a big disaster can be avoided.
