Despite many challenges, India's journey of 75 years has been full of golden chapters. When the country got independence, many people had said that India would fall apart and go into the Dark Ages. India proved them all wrong. It is the result of Indians' intellect, ability, passion to move forward, and the leadership of nation builders that today India is not only seen with respect at the global level, but it has also joined the major economies of the world.
The challenges that the Prime Minister enumerated to realize the dream of becoming a developed country cannot be ignored, but now it is also necessary to present a detailed blueprint of how a country with a population of more than 130 crores will be presented in the next 25 years. Can I stand in the category of developed countries and what will be the role of common people in that? Making the country a developed country in the next 25 years is a difficult task, but not impossible.
Today if India can compare itself with any country from the point of view of the population, it is China. China's population is more than that of India, but it has made so much progress in the last three decades that it has come into the category of developed countries in many ways. India cannot follow the autocratic path of China. India can progress only by creating such an environment with nationalism, in which everyone is aware of his rights as well as duties.
The Har Ghar Tricolor campaign on the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence was one such attempt to instill patriotism among the people. Such campaigns have their importance, but their effect lasts only for a limited period. The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is an example of this. Five years ago, when it was launched by the Prime Minister, it was seen as a big initiative to rejuvenate the country, but today this campaign is not progressing at the expected pace because the average people accepted it as a government program. and has turned his back on his responsibility.
For India to progress rapidly on the path of progress and fulfill the dream of becoming a developed country, it is most necessary to improve the condition of cities. Today most of our cities tell a story of destitution. Due to unplanned development, the level of facilities in them is not like developed countries. The reason for this is that the corrupt system has done more arbitrarily in the name of infrastructure development in the cities. Along with the development of cities, the education structure will also have to be looked at again. There was an excessive delay in the preparation of the new education policy. Now there is no scope for delay in its implementation. India must not only increase spending on education but also ensure that everyone has access to quality education. For India's progress, it is also necessary that the country should remove its weaknesses, which are hindering the unity of the society. Unless social harmony prevails in the country, there will be no overall upliftment of the nation.
In his address, the Prime Minister again brought the nation's attention to the menace of corruption and warned those parties and leaders who are surrounded by allegations of corrupt practices and are facing ED or CBI action. Corruption is a major obstacle in India's progress, but it is not going to be eradicated only by the action of ED or CBI, as it is deeply pervasive. The bureaucracy is responsible for implementing the schemes of development and public welfare on which the central and state governments spend billions of rupees, which suffers from a lack of accountability and that is why corruption is not being curbed.
Unfortunately, the bureaucratic reforms that should have been done 20-30 years ago have not happened till now. At one time it was said that 85 paise in one rupee is lost to corruption. The situation has improved in recent years and money is going directly into the accounts of the poor through DBT, but still, the way the process of getting bundles of notes and documents of huge assets from the bases of corrupt politicians and bureaucrats continues, it is the same. It shows that there has been no reduction in the audacity of corrupt elements.
An obstacle to the progress of India is also that the government is not able to get rid of all the tasks which it should not do. Privatization is the need of the hour, but due to selfish politics, it is difficult to form a consensus on it. Many such parties deliberately want to maintain the idea that everything belongs to the government. Such parties are refusing to understand that in the modern era the quality of a service is the most important and this is possible only through competition. There are good reasons to believe that a great deal of corruption is spent in elections. Some steps have been taken to make election funding transparent, but they are like cumin in the mouth of a camel. Corruption will be controlled properly only when transparency is ensured about the money spent in elections and the general public will also be aware of corruption. In fact, along with the government, society has to be active to end corruption.
