The plains of Indus-Ganga are in the grip of severe fog these days. The Indo-Gangetic plains include the area from Pakistan in the west to the Bay of Bengal in the east. This has been revealed from satellite photos. Explaining the reason for the fog, the Meteorological Department said that this was happening due to a western disturbance. Also, the cold weather will continue for a day or two and the temperature in some areas of North-West India may drop up to 2 degrees Celsius.

DS Pai, senior scientist of the Meteorological Department, said that 'the weather remains cold and the wind is calm. This is the perfect season for fog to form. At present, there is no possibility of strong winds, due to which there is no sign of the fog clearing at the moment. The Meteorological Department says that the effect of the western disturbance will be seen again on January 16-17, due to which the problem of fog is likely to persist. The Meteorological Department says that the effect of severe fog will be seen in many areas of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh from January 14 to January 16. The effect of fog will also be seen in some places on January 16-17.

Western Disturbances are storms that occur during the winter season in the northern areas of the Indian subcontinent, They bring moisture from the Mediterranean Sea, the Dark Ocean, and to some extent the Caspian Sea in the higher layers of the atmosphere and deposit it in the form of rain or snow. The north falls in India, Pakistan, and Nepal. These western disturbances are very important for Rabi crops in North India, especially for wheat crops.

 

The torture of winter continues with fog

On Sunday, the effect of severe fog was seen in Delhi from 3 am to 10.30 am. Due to this, 20 flights had to be diverted at Delhi Airport. More than 400 flights were delayed. Due to the effect of fog, Sunday was recorded as the coldest day of the season and the minimum temperature dropped to 3.5 degrees Celsius. However, people got some relief from the cold due to sunshine in the afternoon. By January 16, the minimum temperature may drop to 2 degrees Celsius at many places in the northwest.
