The Tenth Congress of Nepali Communist Party (Unified Marxist Leninist) party of former Prime Minister of Nepal KP Sharma Oli has started in Chitwan from today i.e. from 26th November and will continue till 28th November.
Currently, the CPN-UML (NCPA-AML) is the main opposition party in Nepal as well as the largest party in the parliament.
In 2017, Oli came to power with a two-thirds majority in alliance with the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre). This alliance came under the banner of the Communist Party of Nepal in May 2018, which also included former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda.
But this party broke up in March this year due to a mutual dispute. First Prachanda separated and later another former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal also formed CPN (Unified Socialist Party). Oli's government fell in July this year.
This conference is being held for the first time after the break-up of the party. In this conference, Oli can once again be given command of the party. That is, Oli will remain the party chief for the next five years. The new party chief will be announced on Monday. Party leaders say that 2,300 representatives of the party will attend this conference.
Surendra Prasad Pandey, the coordinator of this conference, said, "We have 2300 delegates. The list of names is ready.
Leaders of other parties were also invited to the inaugural function of the conference. It is being said that Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba can attend the inauguration ceremony.
Oli's party foreign affairs chief Rajan Bhattarai said seven parties have been invited to attend the opening ceremony of the conference.
Foreign leaders will also be involved
According to Bhattarai, foreign leaders are also expected to attend the conference.
According to BBC Nepali, Bhattarai said, "Leaders of a total of eight political parties from four countries will participate in this conference. Apart from this, different political parties from 26 to 27 countries have sent congratulatory messages.
According to Bhattarai, "Leaders of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the opposition Congress Party from neighboring India will participate in this conference. BJP leader and former minister Harsh Vardhan have reached to attend the conference. Apart from this, a team of Congress under the leadership of Akhilesh Singh is also coming with the message of Sonia Gandhi. Along with this, leaders of the Left parties of India will also participate in it. Apart from India, leaders of the Communist Party of Bangladesh and a party from Sri Lanka will also come. The leaders of Cambodia's ruling party will also come.
Harsh Vardhan, former health minister of the Modi government has reached Nepal. He posted on Twitter a picture of his meeting with Nepal's Prime Minister and Nepali Congress Party chief Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Harsh Vardhan was accompanied by BJP's Lok Sabha MP from Basti in Uttar Pradesh, Harish Dwivedi. Harsh Vardhan has written in his tweet, "Glad to meet the Prime Minister of Nepal and Chief of Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba. I also have my MP colleague Harish Dwivedi with me. We talked to the Prime Minister of Nepal on bilateral cooperation, hydropower, trade, climate change along other issues.
On the other hand, Harish Dwivedi has written on Twitter, "Today in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, the Prime Minister of Nepal and President of Nepali Congress, Shri Sher Bahadur Deuba Ji met with former Union Minister Harsh Vardhan Ji as an Indian delegation."
Message to China?
The participation of the leaders of the ruling and opposition parties of India in the Tenth Congress of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist) party of KP Sharma Oli and the absence of the leaders of the Communist Party of China is in itself an important political turning point.
Even when the Communist Party was in power, no leader of the Communist Party of China attended the General Assembly of the Communist Party of Nepal.
Bhattarai has said that due to Corona, Chinese leaders are not joining it. Bhattarai said that the Communist Party of China has sent a congratulatory message to the UML.
Oli's party had invited ruling political parties and left-wing parties of many countries for this conference. Parties of many countries have sent congratulatory messages to UML.
According to Bhattarai, Japan, Turkey, Greece, and other countries have sent congratulatory messages to the UML but the ruling Communist Party of North Korea has not sent any message so far. Along with this, no message has been received from America.
Yuvraj Cholangai, chairman of the Nepali Migration Coordination Committee in Prachanda's party Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre), told BBC Hindi that the BJP leaders attending the general meeting of Oli's party show that there is a tussle between the UML and Modi's party in India. There is a deep connection.
