India is hosting the G20 summit. The summit will be held in New Delhi on September 9. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi went to Indonesia to attend the ASEAN-India and East Asia Summits. The Indian Ambassador has described PM Modi's visit to Indonesia as important. The Ambassador said that this visit will send a message to the global arena about how much importance India attaches to its region and ASEAN centrality.

Indian Ambassador Jayant Khobragade on Tuesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is coming to Indonesia despite the G20 summit. This proves how much importance India gives to this sector. He said that in the 90s we had a Look East policy. After this, in 2014, PM Modi gave us the Act East policy, which evolved into the Indo-Pacific Ocean Initiative. Thus it became more widespread.

Emphasis on the importance of UNCLOS

The Ambassador further explained that India has always given importance to the centrality of ASEAN. It is about connectivity, trade, investment, people-to-people contacts. He further said that the summit becomes more important due to China's expansionist policy and aggressive posture in the Indo-Pacific Ocean. Emphasizing the importance of UNCLOS (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea), he said that India wants it to develop and prosper. The Indo-Pacific region is important for trade globally. There can be trouble in business due to navigation. That is why India insists on UNCLOS (which is like a constitution regarding freedom of navigation).

PM Modi will go to Indonesia tonight

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will leave for Indonesia from New Delhi on the night of September 6. After this, PM Modi will leave for India on the evening of September 7. PM Modi will participate in the ASEAN India Summit along with the heads of state and government of ASEAN member states. The East Asia Summit brings together Australia, China, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Russia, and the United States. PM Modi will attend the ninth ASEAN India Summit this time.
