The Indian team has two major goals in the upcoming T20 World Cup. The first is to become the first team to defend the title, and the second is to become the first team to win the T20 World Cup three times. Under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, Team India will be aiming for these two objectives. Statistics also suggest that India has the strength to successfully defend the title.
Since October 2023, India's performance in T20 International cricket has been not only outstanding but also dominant. During this period, India has won 48 matches and lost only eight. Excluding super overs, India has remained undefeated with a 3-0 record.
This clearly indicates that Team India is not just winning matches, but also controlling them. Australia has been the second most successful team during this period, but their record of 28 wins and 13 losses is far behind India's. This difference sets India apart from other teams.
Run Rate and 200+ Scores: India Leads the Way
The true hallmark of India's batting is its run rate and high scores. An average run rate of 9.69 and scoring over 200 runs 20 times in 62 matches shows that India now approaches every match with the mindset of dominating the opposition's bowling attack.
New Zealand Series Showcased India's True Potential
In the recent series against New Zealand, India scored over 200 runs three times in five innings, including a massive score of 271 runs. Moreover, they chased down a target of 154 runs in just 10 overs in the third match. India's run rate in this series was 12.35, which is the second-best in any T20 series played against top teams.
Team India's Batting is a Threat to bowlers.
The batting lineup of Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, and Rinku Singh is not only deep but also possesses the ability to change the course of the match in every over. Even though Sanju Samson is struggling with form, the other batsmen completely compensate for this deficiency.
India Dominates in Sixes
Looking at the statistics of the players included in the T20 World Cup squad, Indian batsmen have hit 1081 sixes since October 2023. Indian batsmen are hitting a six every 10.99 balls, which is the best among all teams.
Abhishek Sharma: The King of Sixes
On an individual level, Abhishek Sharma has emerged as the most dangerous batsman during this period. He has hit 249 sixes, the most by any player. Abhishek has hit a six every 6.78 balls, and his strike rate of over 200 sets him apart from the rest. Besides Abhishek, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, and Shivam Dube are also on the list of players who hit a six in less than 11 balls, which is a nightmare for any bowling attack.
Innings with 10+ Sixes: India Leads the Way
Since October 2023, Indian batsmen have hit 10 or more sixes in a single innings nine times. No other team has achieved this more than three times. Abhishek Sharma alone has accomplished this feat four times, which is more than any other entire team.
A Warning for Opposing Teams
While players like Finn Allen, Dewald Brevis, and Maxwell will pose a challenge, the statistics clearly show that stopping India will be the biggest challenge for other teams in the tournament.
