The Malaysian Prime Minister indicated that his government can consider India's request for the extradition of controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik, provided evidence is provided against him.

 

Zakir Naik is spreading religious fanaticism: allegation

 

He said that this issue was not raised by the Indian side during Tuesday's talks. Naik is wanted by India and is accused of spreading religious fanaticism through money laundering and hate speeches.

 

He left India in 2016. The previous government led by Mahathir Mohammad had allowed him permanent residence in Malaysia.

On this question, he said, "If sufficient evidence is provided against Naik, action will be taken on it." He further said that our government will welcome all evidence submitted in the case of Zakir Naik. We are working closely with the Indian government to deal with terrorism."

 

In 2017, Zakir Naik fled from India to Malaysia. At that time, the then Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mbatir Mohammad Sarkar, gave him government protection.
