However, it was surprising that Pratika Rawal, a consistent performer throughout the tournament, was not included in the squad. She was ruled out of the tournament due to injury before the semi-finals. Runner-up South Africa and Australia also each received three players.
Stellar Performances of Indian Players
Smriti Mandhana scored 434 runs in the tournament, averaging 54.25. She scored a century and two half-centuries. Her most memorable innings was her 109 against New Zealand, while she scored 80 and 88 against Australia and England. Jemimah Rodrigues scored 292 runs at an average of 58.40. Her best performance was an unbeaten 127 in the semi-final against Australia.
This innings helped India reach the final. Her unbeaten 76 against New Zealand and 24 in the final against South Africa also proved crucial for the team. Deepti Sharma was named Player of the Tournament. She scored 215 runs with the bat and took 22 wickets with the ball. In the final, she played a key role in India's victory with figures of 5/39 and an innings of 58.
Wolvaardt appointed captain
Three players from runner-up South Africa are also included in the team: Elle Wolvaardt (captain), Marizanne Kapp, and Nadine de Klerk. Wolvaardt was appointed captain of the team. She scored the most runs in the tournament with 571 runs (average 71.37) and broke the record for most runs in a single edition in Women's World Cup history.
