Srinagar, Feb 19 (IANS) Adverse weather conditions will continue in Kashmir till Feb 25 with heavy snowfall in many areas of the valley, the Met Office said Thursday.
"There has been heavy snowfall in Pir Panjal mountain range and in many other places of the higher reaches of the valley Wednesday night," Met Office director Sonam Lotus told IANS here.
"Snowfall also occurred in Gulmarg Thursday and three feet of snow has been accumulated on the ground. Light snowfall was also witnessed in Srinagar. Adverse weather conditions will continue till Feb 25," Lotus said.
"There will be some relief from adverse weather conditions Friday and Saturday, but very heavy snowfall is likely to occur Feb 23, 24 and 25 in the higher reaches, while light snowfall and rainfall will occur in the plains," Lotus said.
"The weather will disrupt both air and surface transport systems during this period in the valley, the Met Office said.
The Srinagar-Leh flight scheduled for Thursday has been cancelled and flights to and from Srinagar to other parts of the country have also been delayed or cancelled, said an official.
Kashmir has received very scanty rain and snowfall this season so far and farmers as well as orchardists are worried over this.
