Delhi Police has arrested Youth Congress President Uday Bhanu Chib in connection with the protest by Indian Youth Congress workers at the AI Impact Summit last week. This is the eighth arrest in this case. Delhi Police also summoned the Indian Youth Congress Delhi President Uday Bhanu Chib for questioning on Monday.
Earlier on Monday, three more accused—Jitendra Yadav, Raja Gurjar, and Ajay Kumar—were arrested from Gwalior. Delhi Police arrested four Youth Congress workers on the day of the protest, and a case was registered against them at the Tilak Marg police station.
A senior New Delhi district official stated that the case is being investigated from the perspective of a larger conspiracy. According to police, Youth Congress workers entered the lobby area of Hall No. 5 on Friday and began shouting slogans while removing their T-shirts or holding them under their shirts. According to police sources, the protesters had registered online to receive QR codes to enter the venue. The accused had initially planned to smuggle black umbrellas into Bharat Mandapam by pasting stickers on them. A source said that although they later realized the black umbrellas were meant to attract the attention of security personnel stationed at the entrance, they changed their plan and instead put stickers on T-shirts and wore them under their shirts.
The T-shirts read:
After entering, they removed the shirts they had worn over the slogan-printed T-shirts. Their T-shirts read "PM is Compromised," "India-US Trade Agreement," and "Epstein Files." Sources claimed that the protesters also assaulted some police officers on duty, and the entire matter is being investigated. Investigators are also probing the financial transactions behind the protest.
T-shirts recovered
Delhi Police recovered T-shirts from the car of the accused and Youth Congress leader Krishna Hari on February 22nd. T-shirts and posters with PM Modi's face printed on them were also found in the car. More than 10 activists were holding white T-shirts during the protest. The T-shirts featured images of PM Modi and US President Donald Trump.
Four of them have already been arrested.
Police have already arrested four accused: Krishna Hari, National Secretary of the Youth Congress from Bihar, Kundan Yadav, Youth State Secretary in Bihar, Ajay Kumar, Youth State President in Uttar Pradesh, and Narasimha Yadav from Telangana. Police say the protesters had registered online.
SIT formed to investigate the case.
A senior Delhi Police official stated that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the AI Summit Youth Congress protest case. Joint Commissioner of Police of the Southern Range, S.K. Jain, has been appointed as the head of the SIT. The SIT also includes Deputy Commissioners of Police from several districts. In addition to the New Delhi district teams, the Special Cell and other teams are investigating the case.
