The Pakistani army said on Tuesday that eleven security personnel were killed in a terrorist attack in the northwestern region of Bajaur. The army said seven others, including women and children, were also injured in the incident.
Terrorists targeted a joint security checkpoint in Bajaur district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The attackers rammed a vehicle packed with explosives into the checkpoint wall, causing the building to collapse and killing 11 security personnel.
The explosion was so powerful that it caused extensive damage to nearby civilian homes, killing an innocent girl and injuring seven others, including women and children.
Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan is accused of the attack
Pakistan's Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that on February 16, terrorists affiliated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) attempted to carry out a cowardly attack on a joint checkpoint of security forces and law enforcement agencies in Bajaur district.
11 Policemen Killed
The statement further stated that 12 terrorists were killed following security forces' retaliatory action and a precise strike on the fleeing attacker. In their desperation, the attackers rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a wall. The impact of the blast caused a house at the checkpoint to collapse, killing 11 policemen.
The ISPR reported that the blast also affected residential buildings in the area, resulting in the martyrdom of an innocent girl. Seven more people, including women and children, were injured.
