Air India is preparing to buy 500 new aircraft. According to reports, Tata Group's Air India is going to place orders for 500 new aircraft to be included in its fleet. These will include 400 small aircraft and 100 large aircraft. Large aircraft can be Airbus A-350s, Boeing 787s, and Boeing 777s.
The final decision on the deal has not been taken yet. There is no response from the Tata Group regarding the orders. If this deal is finalized then it will be the biggest deal in the history of Air India.
Tata took over Air India in 2022. Government company Air India became private on 27 January 2022. After this Tata became the second-largest airline in the country. Tata Son's Chairman met PM Narendra Modi before the handover of Air India.
Information about takeovers given on social media
The Secretary of the Department of Disinvestment had given this information on social media. It said that the process of taking over Air India has been completed today and the deal has now been closed. Its entire share has been transferred to Tales Private Limited. After this, Chandrasekaran said that we are very happy with this deal that Air India has come to Tata Group. We will now work to build world-class airlines.
Let us know how Air India started, how it came from Tata to Government and from the Government to Tata again. How the entire aviation industry is going to change and how passengers are going to benefit from it.
Air India started in 1932
Talking about the history of Air India, started in April 1932. It was founded by industrialist JRD Tata. At that time the name used to be Tata Airlines. JRD Tata flew an airplane for the first time in 1919 as a hobby at the age of just 15, but the hobby became a passion and JRD Tata took his pilot's license.
The first flight was on 15 October 1932
The airline's first commercial flight was made on 15 October 1932. Then there was only a single-engine 'Haviland Paus Moth' airplane, which went to Mumbai via Ahmedabad-Karachi. At that time there was not a single passenger on the plane but there were 25 kg letters. The letters were brought from London to Karachi by 'Imperial Airways'. It was the royal aircraft of Airways Britain. After this, in the year 1933, Tata Airlines took the first flight with passengers. Tata had set up the company for two lakh rupees.
Air India was named after the Second World War
After the Second World War, normal flights started from India, and then it was named Air India. It was made a public sector company. After independence in the year 1947, there was a need for National Airlines. The Government of India took a 49% stake in it. After this, in 1953, the Government of India passed the Air Corporation Act and bought the majority stake in this company from the Tata group. Thus it became a full government company.
57 crore loss for the first time in 2001
After it was nationalized in 1954, the government formed two companies. Indian Airlines was fixed for domestic service and Air India for foreign routes. The company remained profitable till the year 2000. For the first time in 2001, it incurred a loss of Rs 57 crore. Then the Ministry of Aviation removed the then MD Michael Mascarenhas from the post, holding him guilty.
Indian Airlines merged in 2007
In the year 2007, Air India was merged with Indian Airlines. At that time the loss of both was Rs 771 crore. Before the merger, Indian Airlines was in loss of 230 crores, while Air India was in loss of 541 crores. Since then the losses kept on increasing and the company kept on taking a loan on loan.
Loss crossed 12 thousand crores
In the year 2009-10, its loss increased beyond 12 thousand crores. One reason for the loss was also given that the decision to buy 111 aircraft in 2005 became a crisis for Air India. 70 thousand crores were spent on this deal. The second reason was also that during this period new airline companies adopted a strategy ranging from customer service to low fares. Air India lagged in this too. This company is often known for its lateness.
The planes of private companies used to fly for at least 14 hours a day, while Air India's plane used to fly for 10 hours. On the other hand, the route on which private companies used to shy away from providing service, Air India operated there, which used to be a loss-making route.
Air India specialty
The biggest feature of Air India is that it still orders food from the Five-Star Hotel Taj. To deliver food on the plane, this Taj's catering service orders it from Taj Sets. Now that all airlines only provide free water, Air India still provides free food and snacks.
Used as the gift ashtray
In 1967, ashtrays were given as gifts to passengers in Air India. The initial logo of Air India was chosen by JRD Tata himself. This was the sign of the archer, who was seen moving a bow in a sphere of Konark. Its theme has been red and white since its inception. Its logo was changed in 2007. Now it is like a red flying swan with the Konark Chakra attached to it. The mascot of Air India is the Maharaja.
