BJP MLAs walked out of the House on the second day of the Delhi Assembly session after Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of snatching away the government's power to pay compensation to the kin of COVID victims. He cautioned BJP MLA Vijender Gupta not to do "useless talk".

Vijender Gupta had asked why the Delhi government was not giving jobs to the dependents of government employees who died during the coronavirus epidemic based on sympathy.

In his reply, Sisodia targeted the BJP and said that they should go to the Lieutenant Governor and Home Minister Amit Shah and ask them why this power was taken away from the Delhi government. Sisodia said the Kejriwal government was in favor of giving jobs to the next of kin of any employee who died on duty, but it comes under the services department which is under the Delhi LG. Tell Amit Shah, LG Anil Baijal to give us our rights.

Angry over Amit Shah's name being dragged in this case, Leader of Opposition Ramvir Singh Bidhuri raised slogans of 'Amit Shah Zindabad' in the House and staged a walkout along with other BJP leaders.

Significantly, the two-day session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly began on Monday, January 3. Last month, a bulletin of the Delhi Assembly had said that the session would be for two days on January 3 and 4. It said that subject to exigencies of business, the duration of the sitting of the House could be extended. Officials said that due to the increasing number of Covid cases, MLAs and officials will have to wear face masks and follow social distancing. The session will have a Question Hour and members will be able to raise important issues under special mention.
