In recent days, affected IndiGo flights have caused inconvenience to millions of people. The IndiGo crisis has shaken the aviation sector. Now, the government has geared up to deal with any such problems in the future.
In fact, for the first time in the country's aviation sector, the entire framework for monitoring technical glitches has been changed with immediate effect. It is being said that continuous flight delays, cancellations, and recent safety incidents have forced the DGCA to drastically strengthen the defect reporting system.
The Central Government has issued several important orders.
According to the new 12-page order, any scheduled flight delayed by 15 minutes or more due to technical reasons will now be subject to mandatory investigation. According to the new order, the airline company will have to explain the reason for the delay and how it was rectified.
Report to be submitted within 72 hours
The company will also have to explain the measures taken to prevent a recurrence of the same problem. These provisions were not in place earlier. According to the rules, the company will now have to inform the DGCA about any major defect over the phone. A detailed report must also be submitted within 72 hours.
New rules have been made stricter
The new rules state that if a defect is repeated three times, it will be considered a 'repetitive defect'. A separate special investigation will be launched for such cases.
It is believed that the DGCA has implemented these stricter measures because the previous defect reporting system was quite weak. The current rules did not include mandatory investigation for delays of 15 minutes or more. (With inputs from the National Bureau)
