The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has secured the remand of gangster Anmol Bishnoi, who was extradited from the US to India. The Punjab Police has now begun preparations to bring him in on a production warrant for questioning.
According to the NIA, Anmol was operating a terrorist syndicate in the country from the US. The Punjab Police played a key role in locating Anmol. In 2022, the Anti-Gangster Task Force revealed that Anmol had fled the country with a fake passport. He had reached the US via Kenya and other countries.
According to sources, the police had discovered that Anmol had obtained a fake passport in the name of Bhanu Pratap. His brother, gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, had planned to deport Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala before his murder to avoid any police action. His name was also included in the murder plot in the charge sheet of the case.
The NIA arrested Anmol as soon as he landed at Delhi airport on Wednesday. According to Punjab Police records, the first case against Anmol was registered in 2012.
A case was registered in Abohar, Punjab, under sections of assault, battery, and the Arms Act. Currently, Anmol has 22 cases registered against him across the country, including murder, target killing, extortion, and the Arms Act.
Gangster Anmol Bishnoi extradited to India, arrested by NIA.
Anmol Bishnoi, brother of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and wanted in the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddiqui, was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) upon his arrival in India. Bishnoi was brought to Delhi on Wednesday after his extradition from the United States. The NIA produced him before a special court, which remanded him to 11 days' custody.
Anmol is also wanted in the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala and the firing at actor Salman Khan's house in April last year. The NIA produced Anmol at the Patiala House Court at 5 p.m. under tight security. The agency had sought 15 days' custody before Special Judge Prashant Sharma.
The NIA stated that it wants to interrogate Anmol to investigate the syndicate's modus operandi, sources of funds, involvement of individuals, and syndicate operations. Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Rahul Tyagi stated that Anmol will now be produced in court on November 29.
He is a key operative of the terrorist-gangster gang and possesses crucial information. Efforts will be made to determine how he escaped from India. Anmol was deported from the US on Tuesday pending extradition.
US Police Detained
US Police detained Anmol Bishnoi in November last year. Anmol, who has been absconding since 2022 and is living in the US, is the 19th accused to be arrested in the terrorist syndicate led by his jailed brother, Lawrence Bishnoi.
The NIA filed a chargesheet against Anmol in March 2023. The investigation revealed that he had actively assisted designated terrorists Goldy Brar and Lawrence Bishnoi in carrying out various terrorist acts in the country during 2020-2023.
