The graph of coronavirus is continuously increasing instead of going down. The latest figures show that more than 85 lakh people have been affected so far. Meanwhile, with the discovery of the vaccine, there is a constant expectation that once the virus attacks, people will become antibodies against COVID-19 and they will be protected from the virus. This is the reason why many countries are insisting on preparing herd immunity. That is, more and more people come in contact with the virus, and then after a one-time illness, they become safe. However, research done in Wuhan is showing quite different results. According to this, the coronavirus works in such a way that natural immunity can hardly be formed against it in our body.
This study was done on the health workers of all those hospitals in Wuhan, who were treating the patients of Corona. According to the study, more than 23,000 doctors and nursing staff came in contact with patients. About 25 percent of these people were infected with the virus, while only 4 percent of these 25 percent were found to have antibodies.
Experts from China and the US did this study together, during which it was found that only 4 percent of patients had antibodies against the virus during the examination in April. This study has appeared in the science journal medRxiv.org. It is written that after the corona attack once, it is not that antibodies are made in the body of the recovered person or even if they are effective for a long time.
Let me tell you that till now, there is a fight against Corona in the case of drugs too. So far, no definite medicine has been available, but treatment is being done only based on symptoms. There is a great hope that people who have been cured once infected will become immune to the disease and will be able to spend a normal routine like before the corona period. Even on this basis, many countries from Britain were thinking of issuing immunity certificates. This will be a passport or certificate, which can tell that such and such a person is no longer at risk of Coronavirus because they have already done it. The owner of this passport may be allowed to hang out or work.
However, Covid19 is a completely new virus, so at the moment, scientists do not even know what the risk of getting this disease is. Or even if there is an infection, how serious it can be. In such a situation, it may be dangerous to permit people to end social distancing based on antibodies. Because of this, the intention of issuing any such certificate was dropped.
Now it is clear from Wuhan's research that it was right. Because even after the corona attack, not everyone's body can make antibodies. Weng Jinhong, a scientist who works at Wuhan University's Zhongnan Hospital, led the study. Along with this, scientists from Texas University were also involved. Since initially it was not known that these viruses spread from humans to humans, so the staff treating patients did not take that much caution. Due to this, more than 25 thousand staff became ill. However, antibodies are visible only in 4 percent of them.
What is antibody
These are molecules prepared from the immune system of the body, which become active on the attack of the virus and are attached to its proteins. This causes the protein or outer part of the virus, which uses its thorny structure to enter the body, that structure deteriorates and the virus is not able to enter the body. Antibodies are produced and work differently for each disease. For example, in patients who have been cured of SARS, antibodies have been shown to fight the disease even after 12 years. At the same time, the case of Corona is completely different.
Now after this result of Wuhan, there is a panic among the scientists about herd immunity. It is clear from the results that the public can not be left open to create herd immunity in a country, rather the problem can become more serious.
The results of the study at Beijing University are more dangerous. Tsinghua University in Beijing observed that the risk of death increases in patients in whom antibodies appear on the higher side. This term is known in science as Antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE). Under this, the antibody attaches to the host protein of the virus but cannot make it inactive. That is, the pathogen makes its home in the cells of the body. In such a situation, the immune system attacks him without recognizing him. In this process, healthy cells of the body start dying. This process is called a very dangerous cytokine storm. This cytokine storm is also seen in corona patients. It has also been observed in dengue patients when the patient is in dengue shock syndrome when the antibodies are high. The chances of survival of such a patient are equal.
