Trinamool Congress MP Kailash Banerjee on Tuesday accused Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan of acting as a 'broker' for the rich and criticized the Central government over pending central funds for Bengal. The BJP immediately hit back. Minister of State for Agriculture Bhagirath Choudhary demanded an apology from the Bengal MP for his derogatory language against Chouhan.

Accused BJP of discrimination

Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Banerjee alleged that central funds for Bengal under schemes like MNREGA and PMAYG have been pending for the last three years. He alleged that the Centre was discriminating against the state because the BJP failed to form a government there.

Banerjee, MP from Serampore in Bengal, alleged that Shivraj Chouhan is a 'broker' for the rich. He does not work for the poor and that is why he was removed from the post of Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. He repeated his 'broker' statement several times.

Speaker had to adjourn the proceedings till 12 noon.

Earlier during the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, DMK and Trinamool Congress MPs protested against the alleged delay in payments to some states for the rural employment scheme MNREGA, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the proceedings till 12 noon.

Banerjee said the Centre has not given funds to Bengal for the last three years

Banerjee said the Centre has not given funds for the last three years and cited 25 lakh fake job cards. She said Bengal did not get funds due to the BJP's defeat in the 2021 assembly elections.

Banerjee should apologize for unparliamentary language.

Minister of State for Agriculture Bhagirath Choudhary rejected the allegations and said Banerjee should apologize for unparliamentary language. He said Prime Minister Modi is working on the principle of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas'. The government said in the Lok Sabha that no state has been discriminated against in the release of MNREGA funds. The Union minister said the pending dues will be released soon.
