Abdul Khaliq, Lok Sabha MP from Assam's Barpeta constituency, has made a big deal about the Mughals. He said that the Mughals gave India the form of Hindustan, divided into small states, so I am proud of the Mughals. However, I am not a Mughal, nor am I his descendant. He has given a shape to Ek Hindustan. He said that without the Mughals the freedom struggle of the country would have been incomplete.

If you hate the Mughals so much, it will not be right to hoist the tricolor on the Red Fort.

The Congress MP said that the Mughals had built monuments like Red Fort and Taj Mahal in India and hence their contribution to the country cannot be ignored. He further said that the importance of the Mughals can be seen in the fact that every prime minister of the country has been hoisting the national flag at the Red Fort on the occasion of Independence Day. The MP said that if we hate the Mughals so much, then it would not be right to hoist the tricolor at the Red Fort.
